Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina

This week in golf featured the Wyndham Championship, held at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. The tournament was a great opportunity for some of the lesser-known names to make some noise, seeing as how most of the big names decided to take a break after the PGA Championship. Some of the recognizable names in the tournament included Justin Leonard, Brandt Snedeker, John Daly, Boo Weekley, Aaron Baddeley, Rocco Mediate, Mike Weir, and Davis Love III.

The first round of the tournament saw some unknown leaders, and some big names with some problems. Arjun Atwal fired a tournament-record 61 to take the lead after the first round, giving him a two-stroke lead over Brandt Snedeker. Multiple players, including Boo Weekley, fired off a 64 in the first round. The weather was less than stellar, bringing in some disappointing rounds for John Daly (68), Rocco Mediate (70), and David Duval (70).

Atwal fired a 67, and Snedeker fired off a 65. Justin Leonard had the lowest score of the day, posting a 63. There were a few recognizable players who didn’t manage to make the cut, which stopped at 3-under. These players included

Fred Couples, David Duval, and Mike Weir.
