Tiger Woods Helps End Fitting President’s Cup

presidentcupIn San Francisco The Presidents Cup wrapped up this Sunday with the American team is still undefeated at home.

Making a flop shot from out in the trees, Tiger Woods won the cup, and became the third player in the history of the Presidents Cup who was able to win all of the matches. Woods was able to get some small revenge with his 6-and-5 win against Y.E. Yang, who Tiger had lost a lead in the final round of the PGA Championship to earlier in the summer.

This was also the first time for Woods to make the deciding point in either this tournament or the Ryder cup. And it wasn't until later that he realized that he did it. Woods commented that all he was concentrating on was getting a point for himself at the time.

A safe 7 foot putt for birdie provided Phil Mickelson with an unexciting win over Retief Goosen. This left Mickelson unbeaten twice in the last three Presidents Cups.

According to Tiger Woods, this is one of his better experiences in the Cup, and he is happy to have won with his partner as a team.

Woods and Stricker managed to become the first Presidents Cup partnership to be able to win every one of their four matches. Stricker was making all of the putts and Woods was providing the truly defining moment during Saturday morning, which was a gorgeous 25 foot long birdie as well as a 3 iron to only 8 feet from the par 5 eighteenth hole, turning what was bound to be a certain loss into a truly inspiring victory.

Tiger Woods managed to make the key point that allowed the American team to truly clinch the Presidents Cup for 2009 after a pitch and a putt on the thirteenth hole while playing against Y.E. Yang.

Mickelson may have been the best player on the American team, having carried along three partners. He went for a 4 - 0 - 1 record for the week, then revealed that his wife, Amy, had joined him during the weekend, perhaps giving an extra boost to his spirit.

Vijay Singh managed to lead his international team with a record of 2 - 0 - 3. It could possibly have been better, but during the 18th hole he narrowly missed an eagle putt, then graciously conceded the 7 foot birdie by Lucas Glover in order to halve the match.

The next stop is going to be a trip to Royal Melbourne in 2011 in Australia. Greg Norman is going to be expected to be the International Team's captain once more. The qualifying for the Wales Ryder Cup begins next year.

This has been the very first time in nine years, since the year 2000, that the Americans have held both the President's Cup and the Ryder's Cup at the very same time.
