Tiger Takes Win in PGA Memorial

tigerwoodsTiger Woods has managed to win a fourth PGA Memorial tournament title after firing a final round seven below par 65 which sent a message to other players that he is absolutely going to be the man to beat when it comes to the US Open in two weeks.

This was Tiger's 67th career PGA title win. He finished 72 holes with a 12 under par 276 this past Sunday, and was only one stroke ahead of American player Jim Furyk. He was four strokes ahead of the third place duo, US players Jonathan Byrd and Mark Wilson.

Woods said that it was nice to have played so well when going into the upcoming US Open. He mentioned that this really is how you are going to have to play if you want to take a win in US Open tournaments like these. Woods managed to fire off seven different birdies, two different bogeys and an eagle. This was his second victory since he returned to the tournament circuit following his knee surgery earlier in the year. He said that it was just going to be a matter of time before he began to win tournaments again, and it was a matter of being able to be patient with his comeback.

Woods served notice that he is back on form again with a birdie-birdie finish. He is the World No. 1 player for a reason, as he is making a stunning return from eight months of lay off time following an injury and subsequent surgery. Now he is proving that he is ready, willing and able to defend his US Open crown which he won while limping from hole to hole last year.

Tiger's first victory of the season was won in March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. When he first came back, he said that some expectations needed to be lowered. But it was nice for him to net a win so early following his return, and now it is nice again to get a win since he is able to hit more shots.

Woods is a 14 time major Golf champion. He has claimed prior titles in 1999, 2001 as well as 2001 at the Memorial. The Memorial is hosted by Jack Nicklaus, who was Tiger Woods' boyhood idol. Jack Nicklaus holds the all time major record for titles, which is 18, and this is the ultimate target that Tiger Woods is looking to obtain.

Woods managed to reach all 14 of the fairways off the tee, allowing him to complete what was one of the strongest of all driving performances in his entire career. In the first two days he only missed three and his 18 fairways in a row is the longest streak that he has managed to have since a performance he gave in 2003.
