Course History:
The Presidio is one of the oldest and most celebrated courses in California. It survived the great quake of 1906 and was recently renovated. The illustrious Arnold Palmer manages this course and it's located just ten minutes from downtown San Francisco.
You can register your tee time online from up to thirty days in advance. In addition, you can also call ahead to the club. If you do need to cancel, you must give the course at least 24 hours notice. There is a non-refundable fee if you register online, per golfer. The rate varies as to the day of the week that you wish your tee-time to be on.
The club house was just finished a few years ago and features some of the most elegant accoutrements you would expect to find in a club house. It is open for lunch, brunch, private celebrations and receptions. Cocktails are served along with a limited menu until dusk. The food has been dubbed "American comfort with a California flair," and is incredibly delicious. The full bar offers more than 36 types of whiskey, thirteen different kinds of beer and a wine list from around the world.
The pro shop features all the best golf brands and merchandise for every type of golfer. Rental clubs are available for $45 for an 18 hole round or $25 for nine holes. If you join their special e-club, you can get additional savings on merchandise as well as advance notice on upcoming events.
The practice center is truly remarkable with a very large driving range and a special six hole practice putting green. A chipping green is also available. The practice center is open 7 days a week and is staffed with PGA instructors and professionals if you need a little assistance on your swing. They do recommend bringing a light jacket if the day is a little chilly or if you will be practicing in the evening.
Prepaid range cards are available and make it easy to get practice in whenever you can. However, regular rates are as follows: $7 for 35 balls, $10 for 70 balls and $12 for 100 balls. Check out their special "Demo Days" to try all of the latest new equipment from the best manufacturers.
Several professional teachers are on staff at the Presidio and you can schedule lessons no matter what your skill level may be. Clinics are available for all ages, and corporate clinics are also offered.
Rates start at $50 for residents or $96 for non-residents during the week. Weekend rates are available and are similar in pricing. Discounts are offered for different groups of members throughout the week, please see their website for their current pricing schedule and more information.
Golfers are required to wear collared shirts and trousers or shorts are encouraged. Denim is discouraged, and it is recommended that you bring soft rubber spikes instead of metal.
