Left Handed Golf Tips

Even left handed golfers often find themselves in need of some assistance with improving their game. Here are some quick and basic tips that will help you get your golf game on track and will allow you to significantly lower your scores in the process.

One of the biggest mistakes that many left handed golfers fall into is actually rather common:

They attempt to golf the same way that a right handed golfer would! This sounds far fetched, but it's true and actually easy to understand. When most people learn how to play golf for the first time, they do so by borrowing clubs from a friend, and they start trying to emulate the golfers that they know or those that they see on television. Unfortunately, when you are golfing with clubs intended for a right handed player, and when you are golfing by following the visual cues from a right handed golfer, you can make the mistake of playing using the right dominant hand when you are left handed by nature.

There are a large number of left handed golfers that will eventually move on to purchase golf clubs intended for them.

Again though, there are a number of golfers that will play using right handed clubs simply because they have been utilizing them for so long and do not feel like learning how to play over again using clubs that are better suited for them.

Left handed players will never be as good as they could have been using right handed clubs.

Playing without proper clubs is going to prevent them from being as proficient on the links as they could have been. When searching for left handed golf tips, it has already become apparent that the most important left handed golf tip of all is to play with the right clubs if you want to get the most out of your natural swing.

If you cannot currently buy a set of left handed clubs, wait rather than simply buying a set of the wrong clubs.

If you buy clubs that are not meant for you, your golf swing will suffer. Try shopping at a larger pro shop to find a bigger selection, and choose the clubs that will actually benefit your swing by choosing clubs that are intended for a left handed golfer.

Another option for finding left handed golf clubs, if you cannot find them in your local area, is that you can purchase your golf clubs online or by going through a mail order catalog. There are a variety of reputable online and catalog based pro shops to choose from, and many will offer excellent advice on choosing the clubs that will best suit your style of play and your golf swing. If you want to get the most out of the set of clubs you buy, shop around and choose the right ones for your left handed golf swing.

Understanding the Golf Swing By Manuel de la Torre

Manuel de la Torre is a legend in golf and he also happens to be the son of a golfing legend. When you put this together in one book, you have an incredible resource that you will want to turn to again and again. Although the book tends to wander a little bit in places, it is a very enjoyable and quick read. Novices to the game will find it extremely enlightening and pros should be able to walk away with more than a few hints that will help them improve their game.

De la Torre's father learned golf from a man who lost a leg in World War One and went on to become a champion with a killer drive. It's from this tradition and foundation that de la Torre went on to become one of the most skilled golfers in present time. His book is a wonderful look at the philosophy and skill that went into perfecting his own game and of course, the most important thing - the swing.

Numerous books are written every year that try to dissect the swing and figure out how everyone can turn into a powerhouse over night. Millions of dollars are spent every year by golfers that are seeking that magic bullet, either in the form of a can't miss system or a special driver that promises the moon. All of these things add up into one lucrative cash cow but usually leave the recipient with little more than a few tips and no improvement in their swing.

De la Torre's approach is much different and you're not left feeling as though you've been ripped off after reading it. His tips can be put into immediate use by any player and although they may not work for everyone with the same results, they are certainly tested remedies for fixing common problems. The book is an incredibly enjoyable read and never once did it wander into dry territory.

This is considered a classic in the golfing industry and there is a reason. By far, when it comes to books about the art of the golf swing, there simply is no competition. It's concise, helpful and very engaging. The reader never feels overwhelmed or intimidated, and most end up feeling as though they can go out and hit the course and actually improve their swing. The author is considered one of the top 100 teachers in the world and it's easy to see why he earned that distinction after reading this book.

Overall, we highly recommend this book and it deserves a place of high honor in any golfer's bookcase. It's a thoroughly entertaining read that is also incredibly useful and packed with real world advice. It is an older title, but the book is a timeless read that is just as helpful now as it was when it was first released. Sometimes, the old ways really are better, and if you don't work on the fundamentals, no special driver is going to give you the results you want.

Tips for Club Swinging

One of the oldest and most commonly asked questions regarding playing golf has always revolved around learning how to swing a golf club. At the professional level, the study of biomechanics and how it affects golf swing has gone into some truly extreme detail, and deep investigations have been made into creating optimum power, optimum angle and optimum stance for each swing. However, each person is so uniquely individual, and there are so many different elements involved in a single swing that the variations of possibilities are virtually limitless.

Downside to Biomechanics

The downside to all of this research however, is that it can make people think that swinging a club is more difficult than it actually has to be. Swinging a golf club does not have to be difficult by any means. You can begin learning by pretending that you are using both arms to swing at a baseball. Then you simply need to make some necessary adjustments to swing at a ball that is on the ground instead, and you are already well on your way to swinging a golf club effectively.

Stance and Backswing

The true key to improving your swing is to get your stance right. If your body is not in the right shape, then your muscles are going to focus on correcting this improper shape, wasting energy that otherwise could have gone into powering that swing. Once you have your stance correct, the next thing that you need to look at is your backswing. Improving your backswing means imagining that you are turning your back to the ball. This turning will allow you to build up enough power that you can really put some speed into the club you're swinging. If you get this right, then having your arms positioned properly should allow you to follow through with a proper swing.

Downswing and Release

On the downswing you should really just relax and allow gravity to take its course. The real key here is simply to imagine the turn again coming from your back while relaxing. Do not try to force your arms down, but rather simply allow them to flow so that you will not unnecessarily tighten your muscles. This will go a long way when it comes to correcting a swing that is normally inaccurate. When it actually comes to striking the ball, you should simply pretend that you are just taking another practice swing, but that the ball got in the way. This will help to make sure that your arms are kept relaxed, and it will also make sure that you are not forcing unnecessary power behind the ball, which is an easy way to create mistakes. Your arms should automatically follow through to the ball this way. Once the ball has gone, you can wait until your arms naturally allow your head to be pushed upward, keeping your back loose and flexible along the way.

If you feel like swinging a club can be more simple now that you've followed the process above, then you are well on your way to improving your golf game, simply by turning your golf swing into a basic step by step process.

Are You Ruining Your Own Swing?

Volumes of advice have been written on the art of the golf swing, and yet people still struggle. There are hundreds of small things that can go wrong with any swing and even the pros are plagued by issues that haunt them every time they go up to the tee. While there is no magic bullet for your swing, there are a few things that you can target to help you get better results, drive farther and correct common issues such as slicing.

Not every golfer will have the same problems, which is one of the main reasons that books and videos on swing correction may not be useful. They are usually quite general in nature and designed for those that are either just starting out, or only need small tweaks in common problem areas. While this is a great strategy, if you have found that after taking lessons, reading books and diligently trying that you are still having problems, the solution may be easier than you think.

The best way to tell what may be wrong with your swing is to get someone to video tape you. This will help you take a look at yourself, and is very useful to those that just can’t “feel” what is wrong. If you can get a pro to look it over, great. If not, here is one major flaw that you need to watch out for. If you have this flaw in your swing, you’ll not only be wasting the power of your swing, but you’ll also experience a loss of accuracy.

The problem is called “the sway.” It’s a common issue but one that is rarely addressed fully. Many golfers find that they unconsciously sway when they hit the ball, but they really don’t know how to stop it. If you have a powerful swing, this sway can be a big problem, thanks to the rules of force. As you sway in the swing, you’re throwing off your target, and as such, all of that built up force is going to put the ball in the wrong place.

Once you have a video of yourself, watch it carefully and see if you do indeed have “the sway.” It may be subtle, but there is a good chance that it will be present. All of us sway to some extent, but if the movement is pronounced, there is an easy way to fix it. You can practice at home, on the course, or on the range to get rid of this problem. Every time you address the ball, you need to draw some imaginary lines and a box around yourself. Keep your hips facing forward and do not pull in either direction on the up or down swing.

The next step is to square your shoulders, so that they mirror your hips. This will keep your upper body from swaying. Once you have both your hips and shoulders working together, you’ll be able to reduce “the sway,” and get back to playing golf the way you want to.

Donald Trump’s Design Approved

The Scottish government has decided to approve the plans designed by Donald Trump to take a wild stretch of the Aberdeenshire coastline in the north east part of Scotland, and transform it into a 2.4 billion dollar golf resort. Trump, a billionaire businessman that is world renowned and resides in New York, stated that he was “deeply honoured” by the Scottish government's decision, which was brought after a local planning inquiry. While the details are still being worked out, the resort will have a thousand homes and holiday apartments, and a 450 bedroom hotel along with two golf courses, which Trump is known for designing and developing.

The plans are to have the first golf swing hit in the spring of 2011, which is not long at all from now. The decision to back the project was welcomed by Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond, while the decision was made by Finance Secretary John Swinney. Salmond has insisted to his constituents that the project will create as many as 6000 jobs, 1400 of which will be permanent after the development has been completed, which is a boon for the tough economic climate that has been plaguing the world. The resort is also expected to bring to Aberdeenshire estimated 64 million pounds sterling every year.

However, the decision is wrought with quite a lot of controversy, as the land in question is an untouched piece of the natural habitat that belongs to Scotland. The decision was condemned by environmentalists, who state that the project is making a mockery of the Scottish National Party's green agenda. The project was also opposed by the former chairman of the planning committee, who had blocked the application the first time that it went around. The former chairman indicated that it is speculative that Trump would be the only person who could get permission for the development of such a vanity project, and that the project is poorly planned and holds no consideration for the environment. In essence, the decision can be considered as wanton vandalism.

The site of the course development is considered to be a site of special scientific interest. It is believed that there are ways to build the course without building upon the SSSI. The SSSI includes protected sand dunes, and there are dunes upon which Trump intends to build the greatest golf course he has developed so far. The billionaire has invited the actor Sean Connery to make the first golf swing, and promised to give him the membership number 007. The SSSI is also know as the Sands of Forvie, and the Forvie National Nature Reserve, with the fifth largest sand dune system in the entire UK, and it is also the home to the largest breeding colony of eider duck. It is marked a special protection area for wildlife conservation and this could be upset by the development in coming years.

Tiger Woods Expects to be an Even Better Golfer Upon His Re-debut in 2009

Anyone who was hoping that Tiger Woods would have lost a little bit of an edge while away from the golf course with a knee injury is apparently going to find themselves sorely disappointed. This is because the world number one golfer, Tiger Woods swears that he is going to be a better golfer than ever upon his return.

"I have been trying to make changes for years," He told reporters regarding his golf swing, "But I didn't have much in the knee." After holding a news conference in the lavish Hotel Bel-Air in Beverly Hills, he spoke about his comeback as well as his plans to unveil details about a golf course design for a course by the name of Punta Brava that would be situated along the shore line in Ensenada in Mexico. He has been working on this design, which is his third attempt at golf architecture, ever since he tore a ligament in his left knee and sustained stress fractures which were exacerbated during his playoff victory at June's San Diego United States Open tournament, which was what forced him out for the remainder of the season. He has planned to return sometime in early 2009 according to reports and interviews, though he is not expected to make a full 100 percent recovery until sometime around 2010.

Tiger Woods assures reporters that he does not plan on changing his attacking approach. His primary focus is not to do any more damage, but simply to get back into the game as soon as he can. He showed a lot of enthusiasm during recent interviews about the Ryder Cup last month, as well as his plans for his newest golf course, Punta Brava. Punta Brava is going to be an exciting project for him, involving the creation of a 6,853 yard, par 70 golf course layouts where you can see beaches and ocean from every single hole along the entire course, which is not something that you tend to see in many golf courses anywhere, let alone in beautiful Ensenada, Mexico. Punta Brava is slated to open either in late 2010 or in early 2011, and this may depend heavily on Woods' golf schedule at the time and whether or not he is still dealing with the ramifications of his injuries and the lengthened healing process that came with the exacerbation of his injuries in recent tournament play.

Tiger Woods may be out for a while longer, but he does not appear to plan on letting that get him down in any way. He is enjoying placing his focus on his newest architectural golf course in Ensenada, Mexico, and he is already gearing up to return to the green in as early as January of 2009, which does not give his competitors much time to improve their games if they expect to gain an edge over him during his absence.
