Scott Wins Texas Open

Adam Scott earned his first PGA Tour Victory in 2 years on at the Texas Open on Sunday, ending with a 14-under 274 and taking home the $1,098,000 prize pot. He defeated runner-up Fredrik Jacobson by one stroke. Texas is apparently a great place for Scott, as it's the only place he's won PGA Tour victories for several years. Before the Open win on Sunday, his last 2 wins were both in the Lone Star State, at the Bryon Nelson Classic in 2008 and the Houston Open in 2007.

At one point, Scott was down by 4 strokes, at 11-under when he approached the 36-hole finale on Sunday. But through the course of the day he worked his way up to a win on the Oaks Course, which was designed by a fellow Aussie. Greg Norman designed the course at TPC San Antonio, and sent a note of congratulations to Scott after his win. This marks the 29-year-old's 7th PGA Tour victory.

He started out in a position which no one guessed might give him the win, after getting 2 bogies early on. But then he managed an eagle on the 17th hole in round3, then garnered 5 birdies to pull ahead.  It wasn't all smooth sailing, however, as he did get a bogey in the last round. But then Jacobson, who also had a clear shot at the title, missing a 16-foot putt on hole 18 and failed to tie and force a playoff round, leaving Scott in the lead for the win. The tournament itself wasn't without ups and downs, either. Friday's play was rained out after over 3 inches of rain fell, which is why 36-holes were played on Sunday instead of 18.

Other players at the top of the leaderboard include Ernie Els, Jimmy Walker and Aaron Baddeley, who all tied for 3rd place with 12-under. Walker finished with the best score of his professional career, while Baddeley started the day 4 shots down just like Scott, but couldn't pull ahead. Garth Mulroy and Tim Petrovic were just behind them with 11-under.

Once Scott pulled ahead, he managed to maintain his steam until the 18th which was a par-5. He gave Jacobson a shot at a tie when he hit the ball into the bunker next to the green. The hole seemed saved, though, when he hit the ball back onto the green and only 6 feet away from the pin for the putt. But then his putt missed by half an inch. Scott said it was a bit of a disaster.

If Jacobson hadn't missed his final shot, they'd have gone to a tie and playoff. Jacobson started the day only 3 strokes back and managed to avoid any bogeys in the 3rd round. What kept him from pulling ahead were the double puts on most of the front 9 that kept him from breaking par. He did birdie number 12, prompting him to raise his hands in relief when he did so. He never regained the moment he'd had in the first round when he'd birdied 5 in a row, and the final putt miss gave the title to Scott.
