Putting 101 pt 2

  • The stroke itself is essentially like a pendulum action that is controlled almost completely by your shoulders, as your hands are going to be remaining relatively passive. You should be creating an imaginary triangle with your arms and your shoulders here.
  • Now you should be trying to maintain a triangle relationship throughout your entire strong from the backswing to the end of the follow through.
  • You should be concentrating on trying to swing the head of the putter upwards into the impact as well as through it. Having the ball placed forward in your stance is going to encourage the upward strike while promoting a positive roll. On the other hand, if the blow is a descending blow then it may cause the ball to jump up into the air.
  • Finally, you should hold your position during follow through, taking care not to look up too quickly. You should be keeping your eyes on the ground until the ball has gone well on its way. You should be greeted at this point with the ball dropping right into the hole, if you have done everything right.

Anti Yip Putting

One of the worst faults when it comes to putting is to allow your left wrist to break down during the impact. This is famously referred to as "yips" because it causes the face of the putter to behave in an erratic fashion which tends to be bad news for any scorecard. The anti yip stroke when putting has everything to do with dropping the left hand.

  • A basic tip for anti-yip putting is going to involve gripping the club using your left hand below the right hand. This is going to lock the wrist into the right position against the putter's shaft, preventing any wrist action that would be unwanted during the stroke.
  • The grip is also going to have an added advantage in that it will be lowering your left shoulder, and this is going to bring your left shoulder more in line with your right shoulder for a better putt.
  • Other than what has already been mentioned, the stroke is almost going to be completely the same as the orthodox method that we already mentioned.
  • The shoulders are going to be controlling the motion, so you simply need to rock them both back and forth in order to regulate the right amount of force in the stroke that you are attempting to achieve.
  • Again, it is well worth emphasizing that you should pay attention to how the left wrist maintains firm throughout the stroke. You should note that there are no breakdowns in your left wrist at all whatsoever anymore.
