Tiger Woods may be out of commission for the 2008 season, but he is never really out of mind. When he first burst onto the scene and turned golf on its ear, no one really knew what to expect. This upstart kid went on to numerous championships, endorsement deals and is considered by many to be a true hero of the golfing world.
Woods was born in 1975 in Cypress, CA. His real name is actually Eldrick Tont, but the nickname of Tiger has stuck with him. He first began playing golf at the age of two and quickly became a child prodigy. He actually appeared on the Mike Douglas show when he was just two years old and it seemed then that he was destined for greatness. Fourteen major wins later, it’s clear that Woods may just be one of the greatest golfers to come around the bend in many years.
In 1996, Woods turned pro and from the start, it was obvious that this was a player that knew his golf. His former coaches, his father, and Tiger himself have all been asked what his main secret is, but it is apparent that in addition to some great training, Woods has an inherent gift to play golf, and he utilizes that to its fullest potential.
Woods may be one of the highest earning players in the PGA, but he also gives back. He has set up numerous foundations, such as the Tiger Woods Foundation which focuses not only on golf education but other charitable works, as well as Tiger Woods Learning Center, which trains thousands of children every single year.
Woods writes a column for Golf Digest, and has since 1997. He also authored the best selling book, How I Play Golf and has numerous other projects slated. He may not be playing golf this year, but that doesn’t mean he is idle. Woods has plenty of things to do while he heals up for next season.

Interesting and Inspirational Quotes:
“As a kid, I might have been psycho, I guess, but I used to throw golf balls in the trees and try and somehow make par from them. I thought that was fun.”
“Don't force your kids into sports. I never was. To this day, my dad has never asked me to go play golf. I ask him. It's the child's desire to play that matters, not the parent's desire to have the child play. Fun. Keep it fun.”
“If you are given a chance to be a role model, I think you should always take it because you can influence a person's life in a positive light, and that's what I want to do. That's what it's all about.”
