Greg Norman, arguably one of the most famous golfers in the 1980’s and 1990’s, was born in Australia in 1955. His nickname, The Great White Shark, referred to his heritage, his white blond hair and his killer instinct on the course. There were few that could top Norman when he was at the top of his game, and to this day, few have come close.
Norman actually did not play golf until he was 16 years old, which truly highlights his natural ability. He won his first tournament in 1978, and afterwards joined the PGA with great success. All told, he has more than 87 wins, and many of them were historic nail biters that are remembered to this day.
In addition to mopping up on the course, Norman is an entrepreneur and recently married tennis star Chris Evert. He is still playing on the Senior PGA tour and 2008 has been a good year for him. He may not be at the top of the rankings like he once was, when he spent 331 weeks as the top ranked player during the 1980’s, but he has certainly maintained his edge and his competitive spirit.
In Norman’s spare time he is involved in numerous charities as well as business ventures. He currently lives in Florida. Norman was briefly active in boating, building a very expensive ship that went on to lose horribly at its one opening race. It was subsequently sold to the founder of Blockbuster video, and can be rented out for a weekly rate. Norman keeps busy on the tour and with his family and his future still looks very bright.

Interesting and Inspirational Quotes:

“Aggressive play is a vital asset of the world's greatest golfers. However, it's even more important to the average player. Attack this game in a bold, confident, and determined way, and you'll make a giant leap toward realizing your full potential as a player.”
“I played with Tiger [Woods], and I probably felt like you would be out there with me. Tiger is getting it by me about 50 or 60 yards, so it makes you inferior with your ability to hit the ball.”
