Patty Sheehan was born on October 27 in 1956 in Middlebury, Vermont, and is an American professional golfer who became a member of the Women's PGA Tour (LPGA) in 1980 and went on to win six different major championships with a total of thirty five LPGA Tour victories in all. Patty Sheehan managed to win three straight Nevada High school championships followed by three straight Nevada State Amateurs, and then two straight California Women's amateurs before taking 1979 US Women's Amateur runner up. In the 1980 United States Curtis Cup she went 4 and 0. In 1980 she joined the LPGA Tour and won Rookie of the Year in 1981. She was strong throughout her career in the 80s and won numerous championships, then took Tour Player of the Year with the LPGA Tour in 1983. In 1987 she was named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.

Patty Sheehan was one of the first LPGA players to ever announce their homosexuality publicly. She has two adopted children with her partner, Rebecca Gaston. She is currently a member of the LPGA Hall of Fame, having qualified in 1993 by winning her 30th professional tournament.
