Pitch shots are sort of like in between shots as they are longer than chips but they are shorter in comparison to full wings. For this very reason, pitch shots are often played particularly badly. Rather than attacking your pin as you are meant to, many golfers will end up missing the green completely. The ability to hole every shot rather than simply hitting the greens is an ability that would be reflected in your scores. As many as 70% of all shots in a single round of golf are going to be played within approximately 70 yards away from the green. This is all the more reason why you should work to develop a reliable technique for pitch shots.
If you can master your short game around the green, then it is going to end up doing wonders for your overall score. Before you will be able to drop your neat pitching shots onto the pin, however, you are going to have to grasp some pretty important fundamentals, which are versatility, control and judgment. These are truly essential prerequisites for approach play on a professional level.
Sharpening your Approach Play
Just as there is versatility in the types of situations that you can experience on the green, there is also versatility in the equipment that you can use to give you the maximum amount of versatility on the course.
Total Control
Control, judgment of distance and accuracy are all what is going to matter most when it comes to homing in on the green with your shots. It is therefore quite essential that you do absolutely everything that you can in order to enhance that level of control.
Gripping down on your club is going to be one of these measures. This is going to reduce the gap that is between your hands and your club head, and what this is going to do is effectively shorten your swing in both of its directions, both back and through. It further is going to enhance the level of control that you have while enabling you to make a positive swing, which will allow you to be safe in the understanding that you are not going to overshoot your intended target.
The Open Stance
As with most other aspect associated with golf, the majority of problems that people are dealing with when it comes to itching actually stem from a set up position that is faulty. Many players are making the mistake of setting up to the ball as they normally would do for a typical full shot. In other words, they are square to the line of the target. This is immediately going to cause problems.
The fact that you are standing closer to the ball, combined with using a shorter staff with your pitching clubs is going to mean that your swing will be more upright by nature.
