Greenbriar Classic Ends with Amazing Three-Way Playoff

It is rare that you see a tournament go into a playoff situation. It is even rarer whenever you see a game go into a three-way playoff. This is exactly the situation which ended the Greenbirar Classic on Sunday. The playoff was shared by Scott Stallings, Bob Estes and Bill Haas. The three players played the 18th hole for a total yards of 168. In the end, the match was determined by a 7 foot breaking putt from Stallings.

The winning putt not only allowed the 28 year old player to take home a $1.08 million purse. He also wins a right to show up to the Bridgestone Invitational. It is a great way for the young player to enjoy a huge win. It was an amazing feeling for someone who used to get eager to get signatures form some of the top players whenever he saw them. Now to become one of the winners was a good feeling.

The birdie which landed him the title was not a surprise seeing as it was six birdies in the back nine which even put him into the playoff to begin with. It was seemingly his day to shine and his day to move ahead of others.

Of course, the tournament ending in a sudden death has been something of a norm in the past few weeks. The preceding tournament at the Canadian Open allowed Kris Banks to get beaten by Sean O’Hair. It is only a matter of time before we see another playoff, but who knows how long it will be before you will see another with a three-way playoff.

The winning putt was a clutch moment after watching Estes and Haas miss their birdie attempts. He knew that if he did not make the putt that at least there was a chance that he would take it to the next hole and win there. Instead, he made a good read on the green and was able to catch the break in the putt as well as in his career.

This tournament seems to be attracting some of these kinds of dramatic finishes. Last year Jeff Overton was beaten by Stuart Appleby when Appleby managed to shoot a 59 on the last day. The score was just enough to beat Appleby by one stroke. It was the kind of win that no one, including Appleby, saw coming before it was there.

Estes and Haas have nothing to feel bad about. Their performance on the 18th was a great performance. They were able to make an attempt at the birdie shot which could have secured the win for themselves. The only difference was that they were not able to sink the winning putt and Stallings was. With a new trainer and a great win under his belt, Stallings is looking to the future to see if he will be able to see more of these kinds of wins. We will all be watching to see.
