Medalist - This is the player that has achieved the lowest out of all of the qualifying scores during a golf tournament.
Medal Play - This is another term that is used to describe stroke play.
Mid Iron - This is an obsolete type of iron club that added more loft than a traditional driving iron. Now this name is sometimes applied to refer to the 2 iron.
Mid Mashie - This is an obsolete type of iron club that added more loft than a traditional mid iron. Now this name is sometimes applied to refer to the 3 iron.
Mixed Foursome - This is a foursome where each of the sides as both a male and female player.
Muff - This is a term that is used to describe the situation where a shot is hit poorly.
Mulligan - In casual golf, when a golfer hits a poor tee shot they are sometimes allowed to attempt another shot without incurring a penalty. The re-shoot is known as a mulligan. It is typically only going to be allowed on the very first tee.
Nassau - This is a type of competition where a point is awarded when the first nine holes are won, then another point is awarded when the second nine holes are won, and a third point is awarded if the entire round of eighteen holes is won. Each point typically represents a completely separate bet.
Neck - This is the tapered area on the shaft of the club where it is joined with the head.
Net - This is the score for a player following the subtraction of the handicap from the total gross score.
Niblick - This is an obsolete type of iron that was used commonly for playing out of the rough or the sand. The term was formerly also applied to the 9 iron.
Nineteenth Hole - This is the bar in the club house.
Nose - On a golf club, this is the same as a toe.
Observer - This is an official that watches over the golfers, typically along a specific part of the course, and if there are any rules breaches, the observer is responsible for reporting them to the referee.
Obstruction - This is any artificial object that has been placed, erected or left on the course, with the only exceptions being paths, roads and boundary markers.
Offset - This term is used in order to describe a club where the heat is actually set behind the club's shaft.
Open - This is a tournament where both professional players and amateur players are allowed to participate.
Open Stance - This is a stance where the player's left foot is moved further away from the line of flight for the ball, and this is the opposite of a closed stance.
