Low Ball and Total - This is a type of bet made by teams, points are scored by both the lowest overall score made by partners, and each team's best ball.
Lying - This term does not have anything to do with the term “lie.” Lying is used to announce how many shots that have been made by a golfer on the current hole. “Lying two” as an example announces that the player has already made his second shot on the hole and is due to make the third shot.
Mallet - This is a term to describe a type of putter that has a heavy, large head. This is reminiscent of something like the mallets used in croquet.

Mashie - Niblick – For our next out of use lofted iron, we have the mashie-niblick, this is a club that has more loft than a mashie, but less than a niblick. Either the five or the six irons may go by this name.
Match Play - This is a type of competition where each hole of the course is a contest and the victory of the whole match is won by the team or player which has won the greatest number of holes. A hole where both teams make the same score is halved. In match play “one up” is used to designate a team that is one point ahead of the competition. If one team gets a lead that over the other that is greater than the number of the holes that have yet to be played, the match ends with that team declared the victors.
