18thholeGround Under Repair - Any area of the course that is undergoing repairs. There is no penalty for removing a shot that has landed in ground under repair.

Hacker - A duffer can also be called this.

Half Shot - When a player uses a half swing, the shot itself is referred to as a half shot.

Half Swing - This is defined as being a swing with a shortened backswing.

Halved - When both sides in match play manage to score equally on a single hole it is known as having halved the hole.

Handicap - A player's handicap is determined by taking the average of the player's score from a period of time and subtracting par from it. The handicap is then taken off of a player's gross score to get their net score.

Handicap Player - In certain competitions, a player who has an average score that is greater than par may be given a handicap.

Hanging Lie - When a ball comes to rest on the downhill side of a slope.

Hazard - Any aspect of a golf course that is designed to add challenge to a course such as bunkers or water hazards. This term does not refer to roads, water there for aesthetic appeal, or other elements that are not part of the actual holes.

Head - This is the area of a golf club that the ball actually comes into contact with.

Heel - This is the area of the head of a club that is closest to the shaft. This also is used as a verb to indicate a shot where the ball is hit with the heel of the club, which will fly off at a ninety degree angle from the direction it was meant to go.

Hog's Back - This is a hole where the fairway includes a ridge in its design, or the ridge itself.

Hole - This term specifically refers to the 4 and a half inch wide and four or more inches deep container in each of the greens. This frequently has a metal cup lining it. The term also is used to indicate each of the areas that lead up to the holes, a course will have either nine holes or eighteen.

Hole High - This term refers to a shot that has landed an equal distance from the hole and the tee but it has landed to the side rather than landing directly between the two.

Hole in One - This describes when a hole is completed in a single shot.

Hole Out - To hit the ball so that it drops in the cup and finishes play on that hole is known as a hole out.

Holed - A ball that is inside of the cup and entirely beneath the lip of the hole.

Home Green - On a golf course the home green is the final hole's putting green.

Home Pro - A club professional is often referred to as a home pro.
