Kick - This is usually caused when a ball lands on a strange area of turf or when it hits an object. A kick is an unexpected bounce, either from bouncing in an odd manner or a bounce that was not anticipated.
Lag - This refers to a long distance putt where the goal is just to get the ball in position closer to the hole in order to be able to sink the putt on the next shot.
Lateral Hazard - Any hazard that is placed parallel to the path of the course, beside the fairway is a common location for them.
Lay Up - A cautious shot that aims to land before a hazard, rather than an ambitious one that aims to make it past the hazard, but increases the chance that the shot will land in the hazard.
Leader Board - The leader board is a large sign where the scores for a tournament are posted.
Lie - This is the way in a ball comes to a stop at any point from the tee all the way to the green. When the ball lands in such a way that it can be easily hit the lie is said to be a good one. However, lying has a different meaning.
Line - This is simply the path that the ball should follow when it is hit. This term is generally used in regards to putting, but it can also be used to describe a shot made towards the putting surface.
Line Up - To examine the conditions on the green to determine the way in which a putt should be made.
Links - This term now refers to golf courses of all types, but the term was originally only applicable to a seaside golf course.
Lip - The lip refers to the rim at the top of a hole.
Lob Shot - This is a shot that travels up at a very steep angle and comes back down at a very steep angle as well. These types of shots are most often made when the green is very small where the shot is intended to land.
Local Rules - These are unique rules devised by individual golf clubs to handle odd conditions that are present at that course.
Loft - On a golf club this refers to the angle of the club face, the greater the angle it is from straight up and down, as the loft increases the higher the elevation that the ball will reach. For a shot, loft refers to the height that the ball reaches while in the air.
Long Game - This term does not refer to the amount of time that a game takes, instead it is used to describe the portion of the game where distance matters greatly.
