Product Description |
This is a refurbished GPS. Refurbished generally means that the unit has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the navigator back to like new conditions.
Give your game a boost of confidence with Garmin's Approach G5, a rugged, waterproof, touchscreen golf GPS packed with thousands of pre-loaded golf course maps. Approach uses a high-sensitivity GPS receiver to measure individual shot distances and show the exact yardage to fairways, hazards, and greens. Give your golf game a boost of confidence with the Approach G5. | Built for Golfers Weighing in at just 6.8 ounces with batteries and boasting a transflective color 3-inch touchscreen, the Approach is your featherweight fairway guide regardless of the lighting conditions. IPX7 waterproofing means that the device can withstand accidental immersion as well--but thankfully, you'll be avoiding water hazards, of course. Eliminate the Guesswork The Approach displays and updates your exact position on stunningly detailed, preloaded course maps throughout the United States. Click to see Garmin's current Approach G5 course listing. Approach's highly sensitive GPS receiver pinpoints your position and removes guesswork from your game. And as you move, Approach automatically updates your position, so you'll always know your yardage. There's no subscription or setup fees, and Approach is compliant with USGA rules. Touch Your Target Need to measure distances for your next shot? Touch any point on the sunlight-readable display, and Approach shows the precise distance to that exact spot--fairway; hazard; landing area; or the front, middle, and back of the green. Get on the Green Zero in on the pin with Approach's Green View. Just tap the flag on the map to zoom in on the green--then you can drag the flag to position it where you see it, giving you more accurate yardage. Keep Score Digitally Approach doubles as a digital scorecard for your foursome. After the game, you can save and review the scores on your computer at home. Add More Courses Garmin is constantly adding more courses to their map data, as well as updating and improving their course maps for Approach G5. Download the latest courses from Garmin.com. | I don't normally write reviews but after using the G5, I just had to. Had been researching handheld gps for golf for a few years now. Always wanted one with shows the hole layout, colour touch screen, accurate, easy to use, AA batteries and no annual fees. This one fit the bill and I bought it and tried it. Very happy with it: first time I used it, it already saved me on at least 2 occasions. One was with a conflicting yardage marker and the approach G5 was right on; the other was to check the distance given on the tee box for a par 3. The stats program is also a great option -- tracks and averages shot distances as well as fairways hit, putt made and keeps score. If you buy this, do everyone a favour and contact garmin at their website to update or correct minor mistakes on courses so that everyone wins. |

| I purchased a factory remanufactured Garmin Approach G5 GPS after using a friends on the course. It has all the features needed to make your golf game better. It identifies yardage to the green, yardage to hazards and bunkers, and it also allows you to compute yardage from your ball to anywhere on the fairway or green. I like the ability to move the flag stick to the correct location where it is on the green, and the Garmin then recomputes the new yardage to the stick. I have found that I get two rounds of golf completed before I get a low battery message on my screen. I carry extra batteries in case they are needed during play. This GPS requires NO subscriber fees, download fees for additional courses, and so far, I have not found a course I play to not be included in the courses that come loaded on the GPS when it is purchased. The screen is large enough to not be crowded with data. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others. |

| Garmin Approach G5 is easy to use, accurate and contains all courses I plan to play. It works best with the rechargeable batteries as the display is brighter than using standard alkaline. Touchscreen is responsive and intuitive if you choose to keep stats on your round of golf. The interactive feature allowing you to touch a target which then displays the distance to that target and from the target point to the flag is very helpful. |

| Have used this range finder at 5 local courses and it has been as accurate as the other range finders in my group. I used regular alcaline batteries and they last about three rounds. Not bad. The only draw back is it is not very bright but it is readable. I wouuld recoment this product. |

I purchased this golf GPS system for my husband as a gift. I debated purchasing a new one, but since the description said that the manufacturer "brings the [refurbished] navigator back to like new conditions," we thought we'd try the refurbished version since it was approximately $70 less than a brand new one.
When the package arrived, the unit looked as good as new. My husband inserted fresh batteries and tried it out immediately. While the buttons in the center of the touch-screen worked fine, the bottom of the screen did not respond. It took many taps to get the "Settings" icon at the bottom right to open. However, the buttons at the bottom left did not work at all. In fact, my husband couldn't even close out of a screen once opened because the exit button was at the lower left.
I understand that a refurbished model may not be as good as a new one, but I would have thought it would at least be functional. The unit they sent simply could not be used, as there was no way to access the functions at the bottom left of the screen and minimal access to functions located at the lower right. I spent $300 on something that doesn't work as intended, which is why I'm giving this a 1-star rating.
We didn't want to risk having another defective replacement shipped out, so I requested a refund. (Thank heavens for Amazon's return policy!)
For the record, the packaging seemed adequate, so I don't think the navigator was damaged in shipping. The unit came in a bubble-wrap sleeve, tucked inside a sturdy Garmin box, which in turn was inside a larger Amazon box. The unit does not come with batteries (it takes two AA batteries), so it couldn't have accidentally powered on in transit. I'm guessing it was not properly tested before they shipped it out.
I'm very disappointed with this purchase, and wanted to warn others to take care when purchasing a refurbished navigator from Garmin. If you do order one, be sure to test it out as soon as you receive it and save the original packaging. Amazon will provide a refund if the item is returned in original condition within 30 days.
