Course History:
Del Norte Golf Course is a semi-private club that is open to the public. The course is actually nine holes, but most players prefer to schedule a round of eighteen. The course was built in 1953 and instantly became a favorite among residents and those passing through the area. It is known for its natural beauty and the scenic surroundings. You are literally within walking distance of the Redwood National Park.
What You Need to Know:
This is designed as a walking course, but carts are available. We found the terrain to be pretty decent, so if you're looking for a solid workout that is not too strenuous you shouldn't need a cart. However, if you do need to move your game along a cart will help.
You can register your tee time by calling the number listed above. The on site pro shop is incredibly well stocked and carries all the major labels for gear. We found the staff very helpful and this is a great place to stock up on gifts thanks to the low prices. The club restaurant was top-notch and featured a nice mix of different cuisines and old favorites. Very good service and a pleasing place to relax after a round of golf.
Playing Hints:
The trees are the biggest challenge on this course and it is very easy to hit into them if your accuracy is not the best. Most players have to struggle with more than a few ricochets during their game. Try to aim for the middle of the fairway on most of your shots to avoid the trees. If you've got a hook or a slice, it might be a bit difficult until you get the hang of the course.
There is only one water hazard, a creek, and it affects two holes. However, it is not very difficult to get past it and should not affect your game too much. There are plenty of sand traps and bunkers though, so your approach shots will need to be carefully placed to avoid losing your chance at par. Once you are in the bunker, good luck getting out!
This is a very nice course to play that is very well suited for novices as well as pros.
