Comparing Golf Ball Types
January 12th, 2012 | Golf Ball Driver, golf balls, Tips and Tricks
Golf, just like any other physical sport, is a game that requires both accuracy and precision in order for you to excel in it. In order for you to score a hole in one, which is the best possible score that you can achieve, you are going to need to exhibit the most concentration and mental strength possible. Furthermore, you are going to need to be able to match your own skills and golf experience with the quality of your golfing equipment and accessories, and the golf balls that you are going to use will be no exception to the rule.
If you are not a golf aficionado, then one golf ball may seem just the same as other golf balls. The brand name or manufacturer name may seem different, but all the balls look and feel the same. The truth is, golf balls are capable of differing in many more ways and this is something that you are going to need to consider if you want to improve your game. In other words, if you are serious about improving your golf game, then you are really going to need to pay attention to the different types of golf balls, the different covering materials, the different core structures and the different compression rates that golf balls offer.
Types of golf balls include two piece golf balls and three piece golf balls. If you are just beginning to play the game of golf, then two piece golf balls are probably the best option for you. They are the cheapest type of golf balls available on the market and they are also aimed at providing a large amount of distance. On the other hand, there are three piece golf balls, which are ideal for more advanced players that have mastered the control of the ball. Once you have mastered consistency in your swing and golfing capabilities, you should graduate to the three piece golf ball as it offers a much better quality game.
Golf ball coverings are another consideration that you want to make. There are a myriad of different types of coverings for golf balls, but the two most popular that you are going to encounter are Balata and Surlyn. Balata golf balls are typically three piece golf balls, and they are soft covered balls. Surlyn balls are better suited for amateur golfers because they are two-piece balls, much harder in nature and also they tend to be significantly cheaper as well.
Finally, you should consider compression rate when it comes to your golf balls. Low compression balls are soft and can become compressed or deformed easily when they are hit. Medium compression balls are soft, generally easy to control and do not deform or compress quite as easily. High compression balls are hard and tend to be a lot less likely to deform when they are struck in comparison to low compression rate balls. They are the ideal balls for people who have high speed club heads.
