Choosing a club from the wide variety of different clubs on offer can certainly be an experience that is bewildering to say the least, especially as each and every new development makes promises to completely transform your game. If you are just getting started with golfing it may be advisable for you to purchase a well cared for second-hand set of used golf clubs rather than buying a new set from a less than ideal quality manufacturer. In the end, it is only you who can decide what feels right for your style of play, your strength and your shape.

Each type of club has characteristics that are subtly different. Irons are numbered between 2 and 9, and a 2 iron has its face angled 18 degrees from vertical. This left angle is then increased by 4 degrees for each higher numbered iron, so a 3 iron is 22 degrees from the vertical, a 4 iron is 26 degrees away from the vertical and so on and so forth. This type of club is designed to be significantly more forgiving, and it has its weight distributed much more evenly around the entire clubface, which means that the size of the hitting area is significantly improved upon. If you hit a shot that is off, the result will not be alarmingly different as a result in comparison to one that is struck in the middle for example.
