Chipping Guide 101 pt 3

chipping... Continued from part two.

3 - Now for the actual swing itself, you are going to want to keep your arm swing so that it is in tune with the rotation of your body going away from the ball. Your wrists should be allowed to hinge all the way around through the entire backswing in a gradual manner. This is going to set you on a just slightly steeper plane than what is normal. You may only have to deal with a short distance to cover, but you are still going to need to make a swing that is relatively long in nature, both back as well as through the ball.

4 - On the way down you are going to need to make sure that you are maintaining the same action, which should be accelerating smoothly, and you should almost completely slide the club head through the grass beneath the ball.

5 - Make sure hat you are not allowing for any meddling wrist action to creep in and then become a problem, especially as you are rotating your body so that it is out of the way during the impact. You need to make sure that you are keeping your left wrist completely firm, and that your right hand is underneath the shaft in order to ensure that the club head is not going to close.

6 - The combination between the open club face and the outward to inward swing path is going to produce a shot that is going to fly directly toward the intended target. When it is played correctly, the ball is going to pop up high into the air and then land softly, and this is absolutely perfect when you do not have a lot of green on which to work.

There are other types of chips as well, and we will talk about these on another day. The important thing for you to understand about chipping is that you need to spend a significant amount of time practicing, as these are moves and techniques that will surely come in handy some day. While you may not run into an occasion where you have to perform one of these moves every time that you go golfing, what you will find is that when you do need to know how to chip, having practiced and honed your abilities in this avenue is going to come quite in handy.

It is recommended that you practice your chip shot often, perhaps even every time that you hit the green. If you want to perfect your ability to chip, then it will come in handy to have practiced often, honing your skills until the point where they are needed most, at which time you can easily lob the ball right into the hole, impressing those playing with you.
