Pebble Beach Golf Course - Spyglass Hill Course
Spyglass Hill Golf Course is located in: Pebble Beach, CA
Phone: (831) 647-7500
Website: http://www.pebblebeach.com
Course History:
This is a gorgeous course that has much to offer golfers of all skill levels. It has been ranked number 5 on the Golf Digest list of the top 100 courses in the world and with good reason. If you are planning a trip to Pebble Beach or you just want to play a round of golf, this is definitely a course that everyone should try at least once.
The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1966. If you're playing from the championship tees this is considered to be one of the absolute toughest courses in the world. The course is home to many tournaments throughout the year and is extremely popular.
What You Need to Know:
Since this is such a popular course, it's a good idea to register your tee time in advance. Whether you're planning a vacation or just stopping by, you're going to want to lock in your time. You can watch the live web cam of the course right from their website to get an idea of what you're getting into before you get there.
The amenities as one would expect are absolutely top notch and the views are incredible. Please use your best golf etiquette on the course and follow all PGA rules. The dress code is pretty strict and collared shirts and trousers are an absolute must.
Playing Hints:
As mentioned previously, this is an incredibly challenging course. Accuracy is going to be the key to mastering it, as well as the right combination of clubs and power. The first hole is a killer dog leg that leads you to numerous bunkers before the green. You're also going to want to watch out for the third hole which looks much like a hopscotch game. You may want to use your irons to go from fairway to fairway and avoid the rough here.
On the thirteenth hill, you'll have an uphill shot so give it all you've got. The green is also uphill, so you'll want to really line up your approach for the best results. The eighteenth hole is no relaxer either, you're going to need to watch out for the trees and the rough which can really throw you off.

La Contenta Golf Course is located in: Valley Springs, CAPhone: 209-772-1081
Website: http://www.empiregolf.com/empire/lacontenta
Course History:
This gorgeous course was just renovated this year and it is truly a course that all golfers in the area should make the effort to play at least once. It originally opened in the 1970's and quickly became a favorite course of many in the area. The name means contentment and expresses the serenity and peace that you'll find at this course.
What You Need to Know:
You can register your tee time online at their website, which we recommend since they also run frequent specials. If you prefer, you can also call the number listed above to register your time. It is a good idea to shoot for about 14 days in advance to avoid the rush.
We also recommend wearing traditional golf attire here and using soft spikes. This is a beautiful and quiet course and the management appreciates golfers who follow PGA rules and keep disturbances to a minimum.
The pro shop is incredibly well stocked and the clubhouse which was also recently renovated offers a welcome retreat after a tough round of golf. Although the course is well suited to players of all skill levels there are a few holes that can be quite difficult.
Playing Hints:
The main water hazards on this course are on the first, second, eighth, eighteenth and thirteenth hole. There is a small creek that runs through a couple holes but it is easy enough to avoid. The water challenge on the thirteenth and eighteenth holes are the toughest as it separates you from the green. We recommend ironing in for better accuracy.
There is a sharp dog leg on the sixth hole and the rough can make it difficult to par this one out. You'll want to stay to the left if possible to avoid these hazards. The eighteenth hole also features a very sharp dog leg so don't get complacent because the end is in sight. You'll want to hit a very long and straight tee shot so that you have a clear view of the dog leg from there.

Pebble Beach Golf Course - The Links at Spanish Bay
Phone: (831) 647-7500
Website: http://www.pebblebeach.com
Course History:
This Scottish style course is absolutely incredible and all golfers should try to play here at least once in their lives. The ocean breezes and true Scottish fairways make this a real challenge, particularly if you are not used to playing a coastal course.
What You Need to Know:
This course has environmentally friendly areas that make the play even more challenging. Please be advised of these areas and note that you may not enter them. Drops are allowed to avoid entering these locations.
The practice facilities here are top notch and it's a good idea to give them a try before heading out on the course. Please be advised that there is a dress code and collared shirts and trousers are a must. Please follow all PGA rules on this course and keep in mind that it is one of the most prestigious courses in the world.
Playing Hints:
The sandy terrain and the wind make this course a little tough to get used to at first. No one manages to master it the first time around, so you'll want to plan to play at least three rounds if you're serious about taking this course on. It is a lot of fun however and the scenery is stunning.
The first hole is a par five that gives you a great start. If you've got some skill you may even be able to birdie this hole. But watch out for the third hole which is a deceptively easy par three. Try a pitch and run shot to master this one. The seventh hole faces the water and you'll be dealing with numerous bunkers all the way to the green. Accuracy really counts on this hole.
The twelfth hole is very long and incredibly narrow. You're going to need to really hit this one off the tee and try to keep as close to the center of the fairway as possible. You really don't want to end up in the rough on this one. The fifteenth hole is a real killer and you'll need to hit a long tee shot to make it to the center island fairway, and then another long shot to get to the island green. The rough in between each island is not where you want to be on this course.

Lockford Springs Golf Course is located in: Lodi, CA
Phone: 209-772-1081
Website: http://www.lockefordsprings.com
Course History:
This course was designed by Jim Summers and Sandy Tatum and quickly became a favorite of golfers from the entire bay area. The course is well suited to players of all levels and is challenging enough to give a pro a great round of golf.
What You Need to Know:
This is definitely a full service golf course and the practice facilities are unmatched. The grill is also top notch as well as the pro shop. You can really make a great afternoon of it here and have a lot of fun while you're at it. The course is home to numerous events and tournaments throughout the year and it is easy to see why.
You can register your tee time by calling the number above or you can use their online registration system. We recommend checking their website often as they usually have specials or giveaways every month. It is a good idea to register your tee time around two weeks in advance since this is a popular course.
We recommend wearing traditional golf attire such as a collared shirt and slacks when golfing here. They do observe PGA rules so you'll want to be on your best behavior at this course. We also recommend soft spikes so it's a good idea to change out your metal ones before you arrive.
Playing Hints:
The main issue with this course for many players are the hidden water hazards. It's difficult to know where they are until you are right on top of them so you will want to play with caution at least the first time around. This is a championship links course so expect to deal with sloping greens, changes in elevation in the fairways and numerous hazards along the way.
The only holes that do not have a water hazard are the seventh, ninth, third and seventeenth holes. That doesn't mean they are easy however. Most have narrow fairways, so you're going to want to avoid the rough at all costs. With most holes, your best bet is to really hit it off the tee as straight as possible. The one exception would be the fifth hole where you are going to want to hit it to the left to avoid the rough. The eighteenth hole also has a severe dog leg filled with rough, so it's best to go as left as you can on this hole as well.
