The Cypress Course is the easiest course is just over 6,100 yards long. It is considered to be one of the more tranquil courses in the area and is perfect if you just want to relax and enjoy a nice game of golf. The Palms Course is a little more challenging and features nearly 6,400 yards of playable space. They recommend careful club choices to make the most out of this course.
The Players Club offers significant discounts and is available in several levels. You can sign up for the Players Club on their website and learn more about the special options available for members. We'll include pricing information on green fees below for this club.
The Pro Shop offers select merchandise from all the best golfing brands. Club fitting is offered at $75 for a full set, or $50 for woods, irons or wedges. If you purchase clubs on that day, the fitting cost is complimentary. The club estimates that nearly 95% of all players are using inappropriate clubs, so this may be a great option, especially if you are new to the game or having difficulty with your game.
Lessons are also offered at the club from their staff professionals. Pricing starts at $45 for one lesson. Group rates are also available and special discounts are offered for junior players. The club also features several junior programs to help get kids excited about golf. They have two summer camps that start at just $150, and they run at several different times throughout the summer.
The club now offers the ability to reserve your tee time online for a nominal fee. Registrations are available for up to 30 days and special discounts and extended times are available to Players Club members. You can also call the club to reserve your tee time.
Numerous events are scheduled at the club throughout the year and are available for all ages. Whether you like special tournaments or you just want to have a little fun, there is something for everyone at either course.

Glen Annie Golf Course is located in Santa Barbara, CA
Phone: 805-968-6400

Website: http://www.glenanniegolf.com/main/index.php?name=Rates
Course History:
This is a truly stunning course that overlooks the channel islands and the bay. For those who enjoy a scenic course, it is hard to beat this one. The amenities here are absolutely some of the best in the area and this is considered to be one of the best and most challenging championship courses in this region. That said, although the course appeals to pros, novices should still be able to enjoy playing here. It may take a few times to master the course, but considering the view, it is well worth the time spent.
What You Need to Know:
By far, the club house at Glen Annie is one of the best ever built. Visitors come from miles around to enjoy it, even if they don't play golf. The structure has won numerous architectural awards and the inside is sumptuously furnished. You'll enjoy dining here after a tough round of golf or maybe stopping by just for fun.
The pro shop is completely stocked and offers gifts for all golfers. Many players like to take advantage of the patio after a round so they can relax and get a better view of their surroundings. This is one course that everyone should try to visit at least once in their lives.
This is a championship course and it is quite hilly, so we recommend taking advantage of the proffered cart. The course is currently running a special where you can get unlimited rounds of golf for a month, with a cart, for less than $300 a month and we highly recommend taking them up on this deal. For the money, this is a great deal.
Playing Hints:
While the course has only two water hazards and a few bunkers sprinkled around, it's the hills that make this a challenging round of play. There will be times when you won't even be able to see where you're aiming, but that is part of the fun of playing here.
Most of the holes are straightforward, but you will be dealing with a dogleg on holes four, ten, sixteen and fourteen. They are reasonably easy as long as you stick to the left on four and to the right on the others. You'll need to bring your top game for this one, as longer drivers will definitely have an advantage. A long drive off of most tees is essential as the rough is quite tough here and separates each fairway into well trimmed islands surrounded by a sea of grass.

Cherry Island Golf Course is located in: Elverta, CA
Phone: 916-991-7293

Website: http://www.empiregolf.com/empire/cherryisland
Course History:
Robert Muir Graves, one of the most celebrated course archtitects today designed this course in 1990. It has become an area favorite with most golfers and offers just the right level of challenging play for golfers of all skill levels. The course is lush and scenic and is a great place to relax and get away from it all. It is tucked away, so we included directions on how to get to the course below.
What You Need to Know:
This is truly a full service golf course with a great grill, pro shop and lessons. The practice facility is terrific and offers numerous opportunities to improve on your game. This is a public course but we still recommend wearing appropriate golf attire.
You can register your tee time by calling the number above, but you may want to check out their website as they post frequent specials to save on their already reasonable green fees.
Playing Hints:
Water hazards are plentiful here and there are a few that are quite tricky. The first hole is clear of these but the sharp dog leg will definitely test your skills. The third, fourth, sixth and seventh holes all feature large lakes, so you'll want to try to be as accurate as possible on your tee shots.
The thirteenth hole is bisected by a creek, so you'll need to watch your tee shot here. Some players may prefer to hit it short and then iron over the creek to be on the safe side. The eighteenth hole is no gimme and meanders along with plenty of rough patches to keep you guessing. This one will take some time to master, but you should be able to birdie it with practice. This is a long course so we really recommend making use of a cart unless you are in tip top shape.

Washoe Golf Course is located in: Reno, NV
Phone: 775-828-6640

Website: http://www.washoegolf.org
Course History:
Washoe Golf Course is a public course that is extremely friendly and fun to play. No matter what your skill level is, you'll feel right at home on this great course. It has much to offer, and the prices are truly remarkable. It has a rich history that dates back to the first World War, and it is one of the oldest courses in this area. It's nickname is the "Shoe" and it has remained incredibly popular with residents and guests since the day it first opened. If you just want to play a simple round of golf in a great environment, this the perfect course.
What You Need to Know:
You can book your tee time by calling the number listed above. This course offers lessons as well as special Ladies and Mens groups that are very popular. The pro shop is surprisingly well stocked given the overall size of the course, and you'll find pretty much everything you could ever need right there.
If you don't have your own clubs, they do offer rentals at very good rates. Overall, this is one of the most economical courses in the area that still provides that great traditional golf experience. Odette's restaurant, located on site is a legend and with good reason. You won't find better food anywhere else in this area. We really can't say enough nice things about this great course.
Playing Hints:
The front nine all play very straightforward. This isn't the most challenging of courses, but it is a great place to really work on your game. Like most courses, accuracy really helps, but this one is a little more forgiving than others. The third hole is a deceptively easy Par Three, but it will take a few times of getting to know the course to par it.
One of our favorites holes on the course is the 18th, which is a very long par five. You'll have plenty of chances to make up any slack on your score with this hole and you've got a great chance of making a birdie, even if you're a novice.

Phoenix Lake Golf Course is located in Sonora, CAPhone: 209-532-0111
Website: http://www.phoenixlakegolf.com
Course History:
This is a great little nine hole course that opened in 1968. It was designed by Bert Stamps and became an instant local favorite. The incredibly scenic course is perfect for a little getaway and the play is challenging enough for everyone to enjoy.
What You Need to Know:
This course has a great atmosphere. We really recommend attending the numerous tournaments that are held here since you cannot beat the pit barbeque or the fun. The fees are incredibly reasonable and we do recommend booking your tee time in advance since this is a popular course. Lessons are available and the membership packages make it easy to enjoy this course all year round. It is a little tucked away off the beaten path, so we've included directions to the course below.
Playing Hints:
This may be a little course, but don't let it fool you. It's actually quite tough in spots. Please note that if you are playing 18 holes that the white tees are for the front nine, and the black are for the back nine. The first hole is a gentle dogleg to the left, and you'll want to keep to the right so you can get a clear shot to the green. This is a pretty long par five given the size of the course, but you can birdie it if you avoid going out of bounds.
The fifth hole is a bit challenging. You'll want to avoid overhitting on your approach to the green. There is a water hazard behind it and it's all too easy to end up taking a swim. The ninth hole is the most forgiving and just about any player can birdie this one to salvage their score. Just watch out for the sloping green, it's a doozy.

November 26th, 2008 — CA, Lessons Available, San Jose, golf courses
Santa Teresa Golf Club is located in San Jose, CA
Phone: 408-225-2650
Website: http://www.santateresagolf.com
Course History:
There are two courses, one is an 18 hole Par 71 and the second is known as "Shorty" and is an executive course with par 3 holes. Which ever course you pick to play, you're sure to enjoy the challenge. The 18 hole course is just difficult enough to be challenging to professional players while not intimidating beginners.
What You Need to Know:
Please note the following policies that have been instituted by the course management:
- Santa Teresa Golf Club is a public course and may be enjoyed by all.
- Each person may make one tee time reservation per phone call.
- Green fees are not refundable.
- Green fees may be paid for with cash, check or credit card. Check out these credit card recommendations.
- Coolers are not allowed on the golf course.
The course has an online tee time reservation service or you can call to place your registration. Please note that tee times can be registered up to two weeks in advance. Lessons are available on the course from the on-site pros and can be purchased right from their website.
The pro shop is also online and offers all of the latest apparel and gear from the main brands. The course also has a club house with some terrific food. You can enjoy your meal while overlooking the scenic course.
Tournaments are often hosted at the course and are a favorite with locals. This is considered to be one of the truly fun courses to play in the entire Bay Area and it has a great reputation. If you've never played here, catching a tournament is a great way to get started.
Playing Hints:
The front nine are pretty flat, but don't let this trick you into thinking the course is easy. The hazards and trees make it more than complicated to keep on the right track. Aim is certainly the key to finishing this course well as well as good club selection. Most of the shots from the tees will be pretty straight, so focus on using your driver in most situations and giving it all you've got.
Hole eleven is quite a challenge with a large bunker built right into the fairway. Make sure you give your ball just enough power to get over this hazard. Hole twelve is a deceptively easy par four, but the curve adds to the complexity of getting a birdie here.
Hole sixteen is a short par three, but watch out for the bunkers around the green. Try to iron your way in for the best lie. The dogleg on the eighteenth hole makes for quite a challenge, but at least you're almost done at this point in your game.

November 26th, 2008 — Golf Ball Driver, Lessons Available, Tips and Tricks, driving range
If you are just starting out as a beginner in golf, there are a few things that you need to know ahead of time. The course that you select as your place to learn can have a big impact on how you end up playing and if you’re not using the right one, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. Here are some great tips to help you pick the right course to start your journey into this great sport.
1. Is the course novice friendly?
Playing in a championship level course when you are brand new to the game is a good way to get frustrated and you may never be able to enjoy the game properly. Look for golf courses in your area that are novice friendly and stay away from the killer courses until you’re ready. Ideally, a novice friendly course will have a minimum of hazards and will be easy to traverse on foot or by cart.
2. Is there a pro on staff?
No matter how many books or magazines you read, or how many instructional DVDs or videos you have watched, nothing can take the place of an actual lesson with a golf pro. These lessons are usually very economical and you’ll have the chance to build a strong foundation in the game that will take you very far. You can call the pro shop to see whether or not lessons are offered, and to see how much each session will cost. It’s well worth the expense.
3. Do they offer club fittings?
Having the right kind of golf clubs is essential when you’re first starting out. If they are too long or too short, your swing will be affected. If they are not weighted properly, you may have a hard time making your shots. If your local golf course offers free club fittings, take them up on the offer. The tips you get there will be very beneficial for many years to come.
4. Does the course have a practice area?
You can learn a lot about this game simply by going to the driving range or using a practice green. It is always helpful to find a course that offers these practice facilities, but today, it’s even easier to get training. Many courses will have a training area that is equipped with a swing analyzer, as well as other tools that can be used to help you perfect your game.
5. Does the club offer discounts?
If you’re going to be playing a lot, green fees can be a bit prohibitive. Look for a course that offers a year’s discount or special pricing for beginners. You will be able to get in as much practice as you need, but you can still save money.
Learning golf should be a fun experience and a lot of that will depend on the course you choose. Take your time and try out several different courses in your area until you find the one that is best for you.

Course History:
This is a beautiful course that is very well liked among the locals as well as travelers. It is considered to be one of the most well maintained courses in California and their unique blend of fairway grasses stay green nearly all year round. The course management really keeps everything running quite well here and the fairways are always well trimmed and sculpted. The greens are a bit fast here, but that just adds to the challenge.
What You Need to Know:
This course offers a unique feature with a special GPS unit that can assist you with yardage and more while you play. It's a reasonably cheap addon and we highly recommend taking advantage of it. Tee times are available to be booked online or by phone. They run frequent drawings to win a free round of golf and specials are updated monthly on their site. We recommend checking back with them often to save off their already low cost green fees.
Lessons are available from the onsite pros and they offer several levels of instruction. The course is located near a special RV park and also sits near some prime real estate that has been integrated with the course. If you're an avid golfer, this is a great place to set up a home.
The Putter's Bistro and Pub is worth the trip alone and has become very popular even among those who do not golf. They frequently cater special events in the area and it is easy to see why. The food here is simply fantastic. The pro shop is very well stocked and has all the latest merchandise and brands.
The practice facility is top notch and features a driving range, putting green as well as an area to work on your chip shots. These facilities are also very well maintained and very popular. The course does offer special memberships if you are a frequent visitor and we recommend taking advantage of the savings.
Playing Hints:
This is a great course that is challenging enough for pros while being a good fit for novice players. The holes are pretty straightforward and the water hazards are challenging without being intimidating. You'll need to work on your long drives to get the best score here, but don't forget your green skills either. You're definitely going to need them if you want to stay under par.
