Tips to Fix your Slice

There are hundreds if not thousands of tips out there, especially on the internet, that are falsely promising to help you fix your slice, add distance to your swings, and add accuracy to your shots, lowering your scores in the process. Sometimes it is difficult to tell which of these tips are worth following and which tips are simply wastes of your time. Slicing is not fun, and it is especially not enjoyable to deal with the embarrassment of having a golf game that is not "on par" with those you're playing with. Obviously slicing is a big source of embarrassment if you are dealing with it often, but how will you know which tips are going to help you fix your slice and which are going to make matters worse in the long run?

One of the best golf swing tips that can work wonders on helping you fix your slice has to do with taking two basic steps based around a single principle. The one simple principle that you need to keep in your mind when you are golfing is to swing soft, swing smooth and swing all the way through the ball. In other words, you should absolutely not be trying to add swing speed simply by trying to put as much power into your swing as you possibly can. One of the worst things that you could ever do in trying to perfect your swing is to try to swing as hard as you can, because swinging as hard as you possibly can is not what is going to put power behind the ball. So how do you prevent slices or gain better control of your slice in general? Keep reading.

1 - Begin by only lightly gripping the club.

One way that you can ensure that your grip is right is by holding the club out so that it is perpendicular from your body using your arms, then pointing to the sky, and only gripping enough that you prevent the club from falling out of your hands, and not any harder than that. This is going to give your arms significantly less control over your swing, allowing the club to do the work instead, which can work wonders when it comes to curing your problem with slicing.

2 - Follow all the way through.

You need to make sure that you are holding your balanced through all the way until the ball manages to hit the ground. If you do this, in no time at all you will begin to notice a serious difference in your game.

These two basic golf tips may seem simple, and they may even seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but they can work wonders when it comes to fixing your slice, as well as fighting higher scores and problems relating to inconsistency. Basic tips are usually the most advantageous, as they can be implemented one by one until your game improves.

4 Tips for the Beginner Golfer

Are you just starting to learn the game of golf? Here are some tips designed for beginners when it comes to golfing. Golf swing basics are the most fundamental pathway to enjoying this sport. Learning the basic swinging techniques that professional golfers are using will bring you from golfing beginner to golfing amateur, and eventually to golfing professional. Here are a few tips for swinging that absolutely must be learned to bring you from newbie to professional.

1 - Club handle grip.

Your grip is what is going to determine how the ball is going to react for you. If you have a grip on your club handle that is light and loose, then your shot will slice in most circumstances. If your grip is too tight on the other hand, then you are almost always going to hook your shots. You need to be able to find middle ground on the club handle grip situation. This is going to take some time and practice, but when you do finally find you sweet spot, you will be able to remember it from that point on in order to improve your game significantly. For a point of reference you should know that the left hand is the top hand if you are right handed, and if you are left handed then your bottom hand is your top hand.

2 - Teeing off in your head.

After you perfect your grip you need to work on teeing off. This is where your focus is really going to come into play. You need to learn how to tune out or block out every potential distraction so that you can focus on where you want the ball to go. Take a few seconds before you hit the ball, mentally visualizing where the ball should go, and you will notice an improvement in your hits.

3 - Fundamentals of Backswing and Downswing.

There is a lot confusion for new players regarding backswing and downswing fundamentals understanding. The downswing is designed to create the momentum of the club and the power behind the ball. You accomplish this by swinging your arms in one single, fluid motion. This is an arm motion, meaning that you need to resist the desire to make the swing with your hands or with your wrists instead. The backswing concept has completely different mechanics behind it. The backswing should be a lot slower than the downswing, but it should be just as powerful and it should compliment the golf swing. You should always keep in mind that your downswing should be between 25 percent and 35 percent faster than your backswing.

4 - Finally, it's all in the motion.

Your backswing motion should have your left shoulder and your hips in correct alignment, especially as you transfer your weight to the right. This motion is going to be the opposite, however, for left handed players. If you practice this motion then it will become natural for you over time.

Erik Compton Golfer Profile

Erik Compton is a 28 year old golfer who is most known for the fact that heart issues have hampered his ability to golf in recent years. He is currently in the news because the PGA Tour has made special provisions for him to have a golf cart during his playtime in the PGA Tour's current Qualifying Tournament event which is currently being held at Crandon Golf, a course on Key Biscayne in Florida. Erik Compton received his first heart transplant at the age of twelve, and received a second heart transplant in May after suffering a heart attack that he nearly did not survive. His heart issues have hampered his golfing career in the past, but he is refusing to allow it to keep him from his quest for a PGA Tour card.

Where He Is Now -

At 28 years old, Erik Compton just experienced his second heart transplant in his life. His first transplant occurred when he was 12, and at the time he was the youngest transplant recipient to receive a heart in the hospital where he was staying. Five months ago he experienced the heart transplant after narrowly surviving a severe heart attack. Despite still being in recovery, and qualifying for Americans with Disabilities, Erik Compton has decided to vie for the PGA Tour card in the Qualifying Tournament currently going on at Crandon Golf in Key Biscayne, Florida. Thanks to the fight that Casey Martin went through when demanding the use of a golf cart during his golfing career and the eventual support of the Supreme Court, Compton has been granted special assistance so that he can use a golf cart during the tournament.

Career Highlights -

Erik Compton has been playing professionally since 2000, and has been gradually taking on and winning more tournaments over the years. His best year to date was 2007, where he placed in numerous tournaments, taking money in the Movistar Panama Championship, Jacob's Creek Open Championship, Henrico County Open, Legend Financial Group Classic, Cox Classic Presented by Chevrolet, Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open and Northeast Pennsylvania Classic. In 2007 alone he made $20,104 in official win money. He has no career highlights yet for 2008, but is currently participating in the PGA tour and hopes to win a title this year despite his recent heart issues.

Website: http://www.bouldercreekgolf.com/golf/proto/bouldercreekgolf/

Course History:

This incredibly beautiful course is located in a very remote area (we've included directions below) but it is well worth the trip. The course is challenging enough for a pro while not being to intimidating for a novice player. First opened in 1961, this became one of the top places to play golf in the area. The course is nestled amidst pine trees and redwoods and features some of the most beautiful lakes in California.
This is a full service course and you can even rent a condo on site if you fall in love with it. The pro shop is very well stocked and there are also tennis and swimming facilities so the whole family can enjoy the outing.

What You Need to Know:

You can book your tee time online or by calling the number listed above. We recommend checking their site often since they frequently post online only specials. Numerous events and tournaments are held throughout the year here and the course is popular. We recommend reserving your tee time well in advance to get the slot you want.

This is one of the few "No soft spike" facilities. Please wear metal spikes while playing this course. There is a dress code and all players are required to wear collared shirts. Please leave the denim and cutoffs at home.

The Ironwood Restaurant at the course features some of the highest rated cuisine in California and it is well worth the trip alone. Overall, this is a very family friendly course that packs high class amenities in a reasonably priced package.

Playing Hints:

This can be a tough course at times, thanks to its rolling terrain. We highly recommend getting a cart to make it a lot easier to traverse the course. If not, you'd better be good at hiking. The holes are all pretty straightforward, but there may be times when it is difficult to see the green. Long drives are necessary if you want to make the Par 65 a reality.

Player Profile for Seve Ballesteros

Severiano Ballesteros is a Spanish professional golfer, and a former World No. 1 title holder. Following in the footsteps of his father and brother, Severiano Ballesteros turned professional as a golfer young, entering into his first Open Championship when he was only 16 years old. He announced himself in to the golfing world at the age of 19 in 1976, when he took second place in the Open Championship. Between the mid 1970s and the mid 1990s he was one of the leading figures in the sport. Between 1979 and 1988 alone he won five different major tournaments, including two separate wins in The Masters. He also found success in the Ryder Cup, allowing the European team to take five different wins while participating both as a player and as a captain.

Where He Is Now -

Back related injuries in the 1990s caused Seve Ballesteros to struggle with his form. He bowed out of many championships, but did not back out of the game of golf completely. Instead, he created the Seve Trophy, as well as started up his own golf course design company. In 2000, Golf Digest magazine still considered Ballesteros to be the 16th greatest golfer of all time, and he was still regarded as the top golfer from the entire European continent. He made a short lived comeback in the early 2000s, but was unable to make the same impact as before his injuries, preventing him from going very far in the championships he played in.

When he continued to have difficulty with form relating to back injuries, he decided to retire completely from competitive golfing in 2007. On October 10, 2008, it was announced that Ballesteros was gravely ill and staying in a hospital in Madrid. It was later confirmed that he had been diagnosed with a tumor in his brain. On the 15th of October, it was reported by a Spanish news agency called Efe that he had undergone a twelve hour surgery where a sizable part of the tumor was removed by surgeons.

Career Highlights -

Seve Ballesteros won two separate Masters Championships, one in 1980 and another in 1983. In 1987 he took third in the United States Open. He won three different Open Championships, in 1979, 1984 and 1988. He took fifth place in a PGA Championship in 1984. During his career, Seve was awarded the European Tour Order of Merit Award six separate times; in 1976, 1977, 1978, 1986, 1988 and 1991. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1999.

Interesting and Inspirational Quotes -

"I'd like to see the fairways more narrow. Then everyone would have to play from the rough, not just me." - Seve Ballesteros

"It is very sad. I was treated with disrespect. It was hard to sleep, and I cried because the players' committee judged me without regard for the big picture and my contributions to the European tour." - Seve Ballesteros

"To give yourself the best possible chance of playing to your potential, you must prepare for every eventuality. That means practice." - Seve Ballesteros
