Course History:
The course was opened in 1924 and designed by renowned British golfer William Herbert Fowler. With more than 6500 yards, this Par 72 offers enough of a challenge for professionals without intimidating novices.
What You Need to Know:
The course offers practice facilities that include a full driving range with 27 stations as well as a new putting surface. Range cards are available for frequent users.
The club house opens at 7am on Sundays and opens for lunch during the rest of the week. You'll find a great variety of different food here for the whole family to enjoy. The pro shop stocks all of the latest name brand gear, including apparel and equipment.
Playing Hints:
Right off the bat, you'll need to deal with a par four that can be a bit tricky at times. Be prepared for a good bounce to your ball here. The general manager encourages players to avoid their drivers and stick with their long irons for the best results. Keep in mind that you'll be running into a bunker before you get to the green, so you may want to try a nine iron to ensure that you clear the expanse.
The next tough hole is number six which is by far the most popular hole on the course. Each player will need to approach it differently, but the best strategy is to hit the ball hard to avoid the 100 foot drop off and reservoir below. Your efforts will be rewarded by a nice flat green, but you may need to use up a lot of effort getting there.
Look out for hole number ten, which is a killer. Although this portion of the course is decidedly less hilly, the sharp dogleg keeps players coming back for more as they attempt to master this hole.
The last hole features a nice big green, which is welcome after dealing with this challenging course. It's a short par five, so you should be able to eagle it if you are a pro player or at least get a birdie if you are a novice.
