After a victorious amateur circuit, Harrington moved on to enter into the professional league, joining the European tour beginning in 1996. In the same year, Harrington went on to win the Peugeot Spanish Open which opened new doors for his career. Today he is an Irish professional golfer with three major championship wins under his belt, all three of which were obtained in 2007 and 2008, showing that Harrington's career is really only just getting started.

Where He Is Now -

In 2008 alone, Harrington has appeared in numerous tournaments including the Ryder Cup, the Bridgestone Invitational, the Accenture Match Play Championship, the PGA Championship, the Open Championship, the United States Open and the Masters. He also appeared in the 2008 Irish PGA Championship this year, but did not win a trophy despite having won the Hassan II Trophy last year in the same championship tournament.

In the past couple of years, Harrington has won three different championships, having played in six separate trophy opportunities, including the Carnoustie in 2007, Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale and a Wanamaker Trophy at the PGA Championship. This is three major victories in six opportunities over the past two years, which is an excellent record.

Over the course of his career, Harrington achieved 24 professional wins, within which there are two open tournaments and one US PGA Championship. Within the beginning of his career, during his time in the European League, Padraig won 11 championships. In the US, Harrington has five championships to his name; the most recent is the US PGA championship.

1 - Tiger Woods - He finished in second place here during 2002, and the last two events that he entered into he happened to win. Tiger Woods stands a chance of being really formidable during this tournament. Watch and listen to Tiger break down the key holes of Hazeltine.

2 - Stewart Cink - Stewart Cink just recently won the elusive first title in the majors during the British pen this year. It's believed that he has more majors in store for him still. He is capable of driving the ball straight and tends to be a better stroker from the fairway. He was a top 10 in Hazeltine during 2002.

3 - Phil Mickelson - He has a tremendous amount of talent that can be turned on with merely a moment's notice. His family seems to be inspiring him to succeed, and this is a good thing for his odds at Hazeltine.

4 - Steve Stricker - He has been putting together one of the most solid playing seasons on the tour this year, and has had eight top-10 finishes so far this year. His odds of winning are not as great, but he certainly stands a chance of being a top contender this year.

5 - Robert Allenby - He is so talented that he should have won at least fifteen times on the tour by now. He is in the top 25 when it comes to greens in regulation or GIR, and that will come in handy during Hazeltine.

6 - Sergio Garcia - He will do well at Hazeltine because this course is a great one for ball strikers. Sergio Garcia was a top ten finisher in 2002 and he is coming back to give it another go. His putting has not been consistent but the rest of his game is strong enough to drive results.

7 - Padraig Harrington - He looked poised to topple Tiger Woods this week. He made it all the way to hole 16, besting Woods regularly and consistently before falling apart. He ended up with a triple bogey 8 then everything went to hell. Hopefully he can turn things around at Hazeltine.

8 - Lee Westwood - Westwood is eagerly waiting for a major win, and plays as if he were a European born Cink. He is a solid player that will only rarely overwhelm you, but also seems to get into contention when it comes to one or two major championships every year.

9 - Jim Furyk - He has not finished in the top 20 during his last 3 tournaments, but he is still in the top 30 in terms of driving accuracy. He hits the ball well, but his GIR rank is outside of the top 100. His odds are winning are still fair since he was tied for ninth place in 2002, meaning he already knows the course.

10 - Davis Love III - Davis Love III will likely be the dark horse for this particular event. He can still hit the ball a mile and is creating some very solid results. It is a bit of a long shot, sure, but his name may end up showing up on the leaderboard this upcoming week.

Tiger Woods managed to ride his putting stroke, allowing him to take the lead in the middle of the final round of the Bridgestone Invitational World Golf Championship on Aug 9.

Woods, who currently holds the World No. 1 player ranking according to the Official World Ranking began the round a total of three strokes behind the previous leader, Padraig Harrington, but he managed to make up this deficit rather quickly, allowing him to launch himself into the leader board position.

He managed to hole a 24 foot long putt to take an eagle during the second hole, which has a par of 5. Then he moved onto to make birdie putts on the fourth, fifth and ninth holes. The fourth hole gave him a 13 foot birdie on a par 4. The fifth hole gave him a 27 foot birdie on a par 3 and the ninth hole gave him a 7 foot birdie on a par 4. These beautiful birdies allowed for him to move forward and up into a 12 under bar which allowed him to take a lead with nine holes remaining for play in the tournament. Tiger's third shot on 16th hole was spectacular, considered the best shot of the day.

Harrington, who is a three time winner in major championships is still seeking his first victory during this season while playing on the United States PGA Tour. He managed to shoot even par during the first nine holes, putting him at 10 below at the Firestone Country Club which is located in Akron, in Ohio.

Woods on the other hand is currently aiming to achieve his fifth tournament title during this season, which would mark the 70th overall for his career. Next week he is going to be going for a fifteenth major title in golf, and the first one for this year when he moves on to play the PGA Championships.

The tournament is slated to be played at the Hazeltine National Golf Club which is located in Chaska, in Minnesota. Woods won the event that preceded the season's first three majors which are the Masters Tournament, the British Open and the United States Open. He is being looked at as a strong contender for the Hazeltine championship which is going to be played next week. Harrington is still standing in his way, however, as the defending champion for the PGA, meaning that Tiger Woods could be given a real run for his money. Both players, Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington are perceived to be in the top ten in terms of contenders for the Hazeltine tournament, though the odds of Tiger Woods winning are perceived to be somewhat higher simply because he has been having such a stellar season so far this year.
