The BMW Championships are coming up this week, and are slated to be played at Cog Hill. Here are five all star players that you should be paying attention to as the FedEx Cup playoffs continue this upcoming week. As we finished up the Deutsche Bank Championship this week, all of our eyes are turning to the BMW Championships as we begin to wonder how the leader board will change this upcoming week.
Player to Watch: Tiger Woods
Why: Tiger Woods has yet to actually win a major or a FedEx Cup event so far this season. He did manage to catch fire during the Deutsche Bank Championship on Monday outside of Boston, ending up with an 8 below 63. He has already won while playing at Cog Hill four different times, including the Western Open back in 1997, 1999 and 2003 and the BMW Championships in 2007.
Player to Watch: Phil Mickelson
Why: The health issues that his wife and his mother are currently dealing with have had Phil Mickelson mulling about whether or not he should play. He did fly to California this past Monday after a final round of 66. He told reporters that we would have to wait and see how it goes.
Player to Watch: Steve Stricker
Why: This proud Illinois alum managed to surge into the lead in the points race for the FedEx Cup this weekend by taking the win in Boston. He is in a truly prime position to claim the first prize, which is a lovely $10 million dollars. Steve Stricker seems dead set on showing Tiger Woods that other players are also capable of achieving special things, which he has already proven this week when he vaulted himself forward in points, taking the top spot previously held by Tiger by a decent distance.
Player to Watch: Sergio Garcia
Why: this Spaniard managed to enter into Boston ranked as 71st in terms of points, putting him outside of the cut line to even get in on the BMW Championship. He took a 68-67 finish, however, that managed to put him on that flight to Chicago. He is being allowed to play in another week of the championships, despite making it clear that he feels worn out this week.
Player to Watch: Mark Wilson
Why: Mark Wilson is a resident of Elmhurst as well as an aficionado when it comes to Cog Hill, and when he went to play at Boston he managed to shoot a 7 under, allowing him to rise up significantly in the FedEx Cup standings, taking 41st place. He's proven that he's got what it takes to climb the rankings, but will he be able to continue his solid performance this upcoming week when the game goes to Cog Hill?
