6 - Now the ball is going to come out relatively low, and it is going to be impossible for you to generate any backspin, so make sure that you allow for plenty of run when you are dealing with a plugged lie on your hands.
With a lot of application and just a little bit of luck, you are going to be hitting a fair share of these shots relatively close to the hole.
Maximizing the Distance from the Fairway Bunker
The fairway bunker shot, where you are going to be trying to cover a great distance, is not like any other shot that you make from the sand. In many ways it is similar to playing a shot from the ordinary fairway but you need to put a greater amount of emphasis on how necessary it is for you to strike the ball as cleanly as you possibly can. You cannot simply afford to let the sand come between the ball and the club face under any circumstances at all.
1 - Your first priority is going to be to clear the front lip of that bunker. Once you have chosen the right club, assess whether or not you are going to be able to reach the target. If you can't, don't be tempted to try a longer club, just settle with getting out of the bunker and as far down the fairway as you possibly can. Take the chosen club and slide down on the grid by an inch or two to increase the likelihood that you will have perfect contact while you shorten your swing and enhance the amount of control that you have.
2 - With the ball positioned in the center of your shot stance, make a commitment to making a controlled 3/4 swing from your solid stance.
3 - Settle your feet securely down into the bunker sand to quieten down the leg action to help make sure that your swing is tidy as well as compact.
4 - If you have chosen your club wisely and you have executed the shot in a fashion that is controlled, then you are going to be able to clip that ball cleanly with just a small puff of sand through the impact.
5 - You are back on the move again and you have managed to negotiate a truly hazardous bunker without allowing yourself to fall behind on your score, congrats!
Bunkers are dangerous territory for many golfers, novice and professional. That does not mean that you cannot take the time to improve your bunker play - Knowing that a little bit of practice truly goes a long way in improving your score and helping to keep you on tract.
