Albertsons Boise Open and Austrian Golf Open

This week in Golf featured tournaments for both the PGA Nationwide Tour and the European Tour. The PGA Nationwide Tour featured the Albertsons Boise Open in Boise, Idaho, while the European tour featured the Austrian Golf Open in Atzenbrugg, Austria. The PGA Tour took a break this week, gearing up for the finals of the PGA Tour Playoffs.

The first round of the Albertsons Boise Open featured some great performances, with Cliff Kresge taking the lead with an impressive 8-under 63. Kresge managed to hit an Eagle and seven birdies, which only gave him a one-stroke lead over Barrett Jarosch of Canada. The Second Round of the tournament saw some movement, with Cliff Kresge falling to three shots behind the leader. Peter Tomasulo managed to fire off a 63, the same score the propelled Kresge to the top. Tomasulo managed to give himself a two-shot lead over Michael Putnam.

The lead changed once again during the third round, with Daniel Summerhays shooting a 7-under 64 to overtake the leaders. Summerhays managed to get two shots ahead of John Mallinger and Kirk Triplett. Peter Tomasulo managed to hold on to fourth place, three shots behind the leader. The final round lead to yet another lead change, with Hunter Haas taking the lead from Summerhays. Haas managed a 64 during his final round to win by one stroke. Summerhays finished in second, while Mallinger was in a four-way tie for third place. Tomasulo fell to a tie for 15th, while Cliff Kresege ended up in a tie for 25th.

The Austria Golf Open featured a few recognizable names for those who follow the PGA tour, including Graeme McDowell. The first round featured South Africa’s George Coetzee, who fired off a 7-under 65. Coetzee only had a one-shot lead heading into the second round, with Jose Manuel Lara and Terry Pilkadaris right on his heels. Coetzee fell out of the picture on the second day of play, with John Parry shooting a five-under to take the lead after the second round. He held a slight lead over a few players who managed to stay close, with Graeme McDowell, Lara, and Pelle Edberg only one shot behind.

There were more lead changes during the third round, with David Lynn and Danny Willett taking a share of the lead. The two Englishmen fired off impressive rounds as the field watched them charge ahead of Edber, McDowell, and Lara. Lynn managed to hold on through to the fourth round, tying with Jose Manuel Lara to force a playoff. The playoff went in favor of Lara, who managed to take the round after the first playoff hole. The win is Lara’s first on the European Tour in over four years, a player who needed a good tournament to ensure that he would retain his tour card for the next year.
