4 Tips for Better Golfing

One of the largest causes behind missing putts is when you look up too soon. This is most commonly caused as a result of anxiety, particularly when it comes to hitting from a short range. You are desperate to know if your ball is going to go in, but unfortunately when you end up peeking too soon, the ball is rarely going to go in your favor.

How to Deal with Peeking Too Soon:

The reason why you are missing puts in this way is going to lie in a simple chain reaction. If you are moving your head too soon, then your entire upper body is going to move along with it, effectively dragging your putter face to the left of the target upon impact. The result is going to be a crooked put every single time.

So What is the Cure?

* Wait for the Tell Tale Sound!

Next time that you are on the practice green, you should get used to not looking up again until you have heard the sound of the ball dropping down into the hole. From anywhere inside approximately 5 to 6 feet you should discipline yourself to hit the putt, and then wait until this tell tale sound has been heard. Your stroke is going to be guaranteed to stay on line for a lot longer, and when you finally do look up it will be to see that the ball has dropped into the hole much often than ever before.

1 - For something that is a little bit different, try setting up a putt with a medium range and then addressing the ball. Ready? Now close your eyes.

2 - Now keeping your eyes closed, make the putt, stroking the ball in the direction of the hole.

3 - This is going to prevent you from becoming much too preoccupied with the idea of hitting the ball, and more importantly it will help you to make a stroke that is smooth and easy for the best possible results.

4 - Take care to notice emphasis on the concept of making a smooth stroke. The stroke that you make at this point should not simply be a jab at the golf ball. The perfect stroke is a string that takes the putter back both low and slow, and then smoothly accelerates through the impact. The ball is simply getting in the way in the process.

Keep practicing in this manner and you will notice a serious improvement in your ability to hit the ball. By focusing on the smooth stroke rather than where the ball ends up going, you will find the ball going in the hole much more often than ever before.
