The Port Royal Golf Course can be found on a little island shaped like a fishhook that is known as Bermuda. Bermuda is about to snag the elite foursome in this year's golf as the course on the southwestern end of this island is about to be the home for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, in its 27th year.
The director of golf at the Port Royal Golf Club is Andrew Brooks. He is also a qualified pilot, and he has also worked as a golf commentator in his past as well. He is about to determine for the first time just what it is like to have his home course become the home for a prestigious golf championship, which is going to allow him to see just how challenging his course is going to be for the four largest championships in the PGA Tour this year. The tournament is slated to be held between October 20 and October 21.
The foursome that the PGA Grand Slam of Golf Tour is featuring includes:
- Angel Cabrera, Masters Champion Winner
- Lucas Glover, US Open Champion Winner
- Stewart Cink, British Open Champion Winner
- Y.E. Yang, PGA Champion Winner
Brooks says that the entire course is looking forward to welcoming these outstanding players. He believes that the wind is going to play a very large role in the defense of Port Royal during this championship. He is a native of Southern England and is currently completing his 9th month on this particular job. He says that there is going to be a southwesterly wind and it is going to present challenges during par 3 holes.
He believes that this is a really outstanding risk and reward layout. He also mentioned that he believes that the work that has been conducted in the past year in renovations has made the layout of this course even greater, preparing it for just this occasion it seems.
Port Royal was originally designed by a man named Robert Trent Jones Sr. Then, in the year 1970, the Port Royal golf course underwent renovations based on a government sponsored project backed by $13.7 million dollars in funds. The course was renovated by the Roger Rulewich Group, and Rulewich was actually a member of the original design team when the course was originally designed and brought to life thirty years earlier. He knew the island, the weather, the winds and the topography, and it really showed when he worked on the renovation.
The PGA's Grand Slam of Golf is going to air on TNT, and will be broadcast to more than 89 million homes in the United States when it is broadcast in prime time to more than 100 countries. The PGA's Grand Slam of Golf is going to air on Tuesday, October the 20th and Wednesday, October the 21st.
