Here is a look at the final round leader board from the United States Open which was weather delayed. The par 70 course was a black course staged in Farmingdale in New York this past Monday.
- - Lucas Glover of the United States came in at -4, taking first place in the tournament.
- - Phil Mickelson of the United States came in at -2, taking second place in the tournament.
- - David Duval of the United States took third place in the tournament with 2 under par.
- - Fourth place went to Ricky Barnes, also from the United States with 2 under par.
- - Fifth place went to Ross Fisher of Britain with -1 under par.
- - Sixth place went to Tiger Woods of the United States with -1 under par.
- - Seventh place went to Soren Hansen from Denmark with -1 under par.
- - Eighth place went to Hunter Mahan of the United States with -1 under par.
- - Ninth Place went to Henrik Stenson of Sweden with 1 over par.
The tail end of the US Open tournament was held at the black course at Bethpage State Park, finally experiencing an end to the weather that had delayed a good portion of the tournament. Lucas Glover was able to take his frustration at golf out on the soggy field while other players like Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods struggled to keep going. Despite the fact that some of the more notable players fell short during the tail end of the tournament, Glover managed by some means to hold things together. His short time spent away from golf allowed him to somehow become a better golfer, and now he is walking away as a U.S. Open champion.
Glover walked away with a final round 73, which is a number that may not exactly appear sexy on paper, but it is still a win, which is good news for him. The final round 73 game him a five day and four round total of 4 strokes under 276. The round was a nervy one for a player that only managed to win one time in six seasons worth of PGA tour playoffs. The names that kept coming at him along the way, including Duval, Mickelson and Barnes were unable to keep him down this time around as all three players were two shots away at a 278 to Glover's 276.
Nobody really expected for Glover to be the winner this season at the Open. The only reason the tournament lasted until Monday was because the tournament had been so badly hampered by rains at its start. Glover's final golf round began at nightfall on Sunday night before stretching into Monday morning. This win is definitely a surprise for him as well as everyone else in the tournament, but it may have been exactly what Glover needed to see him into his return to golf again.
